Welcome Home Rahja Bear!

January 12, 2009
After what seems to have been the longest
week of my life thus far with daily trips to Maryland on top of
my already busy schedule, Rahja is home and resting comfortably
Thank Goodness!
It's been years since I slept
with a baby-monitor on my nightstand and good thing I never
parted with it. Isn't it is amazing what we do for our kids -
the ones with two legs and four.
Rahja's had a tough, tough
haul more than most with disc issues but even more reason that
she's come through like a shining Star and we're going to get
her through the rest of the way no questions!
Rahja had a ruptured disc
between 5 & 6 (neck area) which pinched the nerves limiting
the use of ALL FOUR legs. She also had some other stomach,
swelling and g.i. issues but after hours of surgery and days in
post-op, sixteen staples later, a pain patch here and there,
a lot of shaved areas throughout her tender body and a barrel of
meds we are slowly nursing her back to health which includes hand feedings
every 4 hours and lots and lots of sponge bathes and leg and
back massages.
"She's a fighter, like her
Mum." (Thanks Ann!) Needless to say Mum's 137 pound Rahja Bear
has grown quite accustom to freshly cooked hamburger patties,
filet, yes filet, scrambled eggs and a lot of homemade meatballs.
Whoever said they're not supposed to eat people food...?!?
Lakyn is doing her part as Big
Sis to comfort Rahja by supplying her teddy bears, story time
and lots of hugs and kisses. Wish I had a Big Sis like that.
wink!
The weeks to come will be long
and hard but as Ms. Johnson said tonight, 'there is light on the
way for your Jodie'...and we are certainly looking forward to it. As
time permits I will be posting updates on Rahja´s recovery.
I´ll ask for patience and forgiveness in advance if I tend to
get a bit delayed in updating the website overall. In
addition to playing Mom to Lakyn and our 4 pups at home, I´m
now a full time nurse and as always
the full time puppy mom at PAwe
PAwe and I´m also the ´webmasterneer´.
Thank you again everyone for the well
wishes and prayers. Please keep them coming as Rahja's road to
recovery has just begun! I
heard a wonderful phrase that I reflect upon every night I tuck
Rahja into bed and she looks up at me with those sweet, brave,
gracious eyes...She is not our Dog, We are her People.

Dear Friends,
It is with a heavy, heavy heart that I announce the passing of our
beloved Rahja on Saturday, January 31, 2009.
Exactly three weeks after her surgery Rahja developed an
unexplainable ulcer which burst into her belly and poisoned her
system. I elected for emergency surgery performed by the amazing
Dr. Huber but sadly Rahja had too many toxins already in her
system and ultimately had an aneurysm and never made it out of
surgery.
That is all I can afford to share
right now as it takes everything I have to type this and look at
my precious Rahja's pictures. I've tried every week since February
1st to manage this small update and I keep walking away in tears.
Because so many of you keep sending your well wishes and inquiries
on Rahja's recovery, I've managed this small blog for now and over
time I'll be adding a memorial page for Rahja. We'll also be
implementing a Rottweiler Outreach Campaign in Rahja's honour.
Thank you to everyone during these
past few months for your prayers, sympathy and overwhelming
inquiries. If you ever, ever need advice on surgical recoveries,
water therapy or are in need of an amazing animal neurosurgeon,
please contact me.
Best,
Jodie
